As we kick off the recruitment for our newest partner Times Higher Education, the trusted global brand behind the world’s most influential university rankings, we were curious to hear more about them, the projects they’re working on and their team culture. To find out more, we talked to Pierluigi Baroncelli, a Product Designer Lead.

You are a Product Design Lead at Times Higher Education (THE). How did you come into this position? What was your previous educational and professional background?

I have over 15 years of experience designing for the web and apps, specialising in UI & UX design, visual design and prototyping.

I’ve been working at THE for nearly 2 years. I started as a contractor, I liked it so much I decided to stay as a permanent employee! My background is in Graphic Design and Digital Media.

Tell us a bit about THE. How would you describe the company in a few sentences?

As the company behind the world’s most influential university rankings, and with over five decades of experience as a source of analysis and insight on higher education, we have unparalleled expertise on the trends in university performance globally. Our data and benchmarking tools are used by many of the world’s most prestigious universities to help them achieve their strategic goals.

THE is making a difference in the education space through its work - it is a dynamic and ambitious company that cares about its staff and offers a good work/life balance. Our teams predominantly work remotely, and we have great tools to enable online collaboration and our teams are friendly and helpful.

What types of projects does the product design division usually work on?

We work on B2C and B2B projects. Each designer may work for a specific squad but we also collaborate on certain projects. We regularly compare and discuss our designs and often run workshops. We use certain tools which makes working remotely very productive and efficient. We chat informally whenever it’s needed.

What makes it great/makes you proud being part of THE?

I like how everyone is willing to help. There’s a real sense of teamwork and although we work hard, it’s always at a manageable pace. It’s nice having a good life/work balance!

We’re now recruiting the first member(s) of the product design team of THE in Bulgaria. What kind of people do you see in these positions?

Dynamic, proactive, highly self-sufficient, and innovative. Someone who can clearly communicate their design thinking, problem solving and excellent attention to detail.
