The Big Tech Run 2017 gathered 250 professionals in support of 2 education-related causes

13 Dec 2017

One of the biggest running events of the year - The Big Tech Run 2017, took place last Sunday in Sofia Tech Park and despite the snowy weather gathered almost 250 professionals from the tech, science, finance and media sectors.

The Big Tech Run marathon is part of the TechRun Championship – a joint initiative of Questers and Begach Running club and marks its grand finale. The championship is happening for a second consecutive year and aims to motivate more professionals from the tech, science, finance and media sectors to be more active while supporting sports and educational causes. The participants in the second edition of the marathon had the opportunity to compete either as individuals or in a team in 5 or 10 km distance. In the end everyone received a special gift pack as a reward and shared the positive emotions from the run.

Thanks to this year’s race 1075 BGN were raised in support of Teach for Bulgaria and Education without Backpacks – two non-governmental organizations that envision a future where every child in the country will have an equal access to quality education. The collected amount will be equally distributed between the two organisations and will be used for additional financial stimuli for the teachers from Teach for Bulgaria programme and for Bulgarian translation of the largest online education portal – Khan Academy.

The collaboration between TechRun and Teach for Bulgaria has started during the first edition of the tech marathon. The non-governmental organization has also been strongly supported by Questers for the past few years as part of the company’s Giving Programme, focused on improving different aspects of the Bulgarian Education System. Through its main initiative, Teach for Bulgaria attracts and trains motivated professionals from various sectors to become teachers and help improve the educational gaps in the smaller towns and villages through the country.

The second initiative supported - Education without Backpacks, is working to modernize Bulgarian education and generate alternative educational and cultural resources through various campaigns. Currently, the organization’s main project is the translation, popularization, and real-life application of the largest online portal for education in the world: Khan Academy.
