THE ROLE:

• We are looking for a talented and passionate Senior Software Engineer to join our Broadcast Platforms team in Sofia, Bulgaria. You will be a key component of a team delivering critical back-end systems which power our products. You’ll interact, communicate and collaborate with engineers based in London and Sofia, as well as with product owners and stakeholders, contributing to technical conversations and ensuring that what we build is best in class and fit for purpose.
• You’ll report to a Principal Engineer and will help them deliver on the technical strategy and implementation.

OUR IDEAL TEAMMATE HAS/IS:

• 4+ years commercial experience programming in JavaScript and TypeScript and perhaps some other languages too
• Strong experience with Node JS and relevant API frameworks and technologies, building and integrating with REST and GraphQL APIs
• Knowledge of code analysis and type checking tools for Javascript (e.g. ESLint, Prettier, Istanbul)
• Quality-led approach to development (documentation, monitoring & alerting, unit/component/contract/end-to-end testing)
• Experience with CI/CD tools and practices and a DevOps mindset
• Experience with performance optimisation, caching and security on highly available application deployments
• Hands-on with Kubernetes and similar cloud-native tools within AWS or similar ecosystems
• Excellent communication skills contextually tailored to various levels of the organisation including external parties
• You understand the value of testing and are a practitioner of TDD, you understand the value of DevOps and building in metrics during development
• You do thorough code reviews to be sure what we produce is of a very high standard
• You love engineering and constantly want to learn more
• You’ll be involved with the technical direction as well as day to day coding standards and best practices
• You’ll be a mentor to your peers and team members, a source of technical expertise and will participate in strategic conversations with the rest of engineering and the business
• You’ll feel comfortable presenting to internal teams as well as external Meetups and the like, representing the engineering work at News UK
• You are a true engineer with a passion for well-crafted and tested code, considering everything from architecture and security to performance
• You lead by example, encouraging your peers to constantly improve
• You have a continuous improvement mindset and are proactive in driving positive change, encouraging those around you to do the same
